Penang has launched GBS By The Sea, a RM296 million facility in Bayan Lepas Industrial Park, boosting its digital and high-value job sector.
This 290,000-square-foot modern workspace, under the Penang Development Corporation’s Global Business Services initiative, is fully tenanted by AMD Global Services, Celestica, and Microsoft, creating over 1,000 jobs in R&D, IC design, and digital services.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow officiated the launch, praising PDC’s efficiency.
The facility features a gym, cafeteria, and 800-bay car park, prioritizing employee well-being. A fifth GBS project, GBS at Technoplex, with RM500 million investment and 400,000 square feet, has 16% pre-booking. Penang’s investment appeal is reinforced by a U.S. tariff reduction from 25% to 19%.
To support industrial growth, the Perak–Penang Water Project is planned for 2030–2031. Chow emphasized the need for robust infrastructure and federal support to strengthen Penang’s semiconductor and digital economy, solidifying its position as a regional hub for innovation and high-value investments.
